UID Labels for DoD Suppliers…compliance in a couple clicks!

Unique Identification - Construct & Encoding Format

MIL-STD 130 and DFARS 252.211-7003 require DoD suppliers to select both a Data Construct and Encoding Format for their UID numbering system. Data Construct #1 and #2 are the two serialization schemes which the DoD has approved for UID use. The Encoding Format is the type of identifier or data header which machines read the data of the UID by identifying the different fields of the concatenated UID. The examples below illustrate some of the choices for each Construct and Encoding Format.

DoD Data Construct

Construct #1 - Serialize within the Enterprise
The DoD supplier assigns each item it produces a serial number that is unique among all the tangible items produced by that enterprise and that serial number is never used again. The DoD Supplier is responsible for ensuring unique serialization within the enterprise.

Construct #2 – Serialize within Original Part Number
The DoD supplier assigns each item of a particular part, lot, or batch number a unique serial number within that part, lot, or batch number assignment. The DoD supplier is responsible for ensuring unique serialization within the part, lot, or batch number within the enterprise.
